How to Steam Dumplings Without a Bamboo Steamer
You only need a pot, a rack or steamer insert, a lid and a way to keep the dumplings above the water.
- 1.Add 1–2 inches of water to a pot and bring it to a steady simmer.
- 2.Set a metal steamer basket or heat-safe rack above the waterline. The dumplings should never sit in the water.
- 3.Line the surface with perforated parchment, cabbage leaves or a lightly oiled heat-safe plate so the dough does not stick.
- 4.Leave space between dumplings, cover tightly and steam until the wrappers are cooked through and the filling reaches a safe temperature.
- 5.Check the pot midway and add boiling water if needed rather than letting it run dry.
